Posted on: Monday. April 28, 2008 By: Brent Watson Hey guys, just wanted to thank you again for an amazing day out on the water. I really appreciate you taking the time to teach me about fishing and not just plopping me in the chair and handing me the rod. I learned more on my trip out with you than I could have imagined. Steve, you really showed me what it's like to be a true fisherman and made me envious of the life with all your stories. Good luck on your soon to be new addition to the family. I want to see pics of you with that baby on your chest and a rod in your hand. Wayne, you were the man, putting us on the fish like that. 3 Ono in the first 15 minutes out, then straight hookups on Amberjack and a breakoff by a GT (we think), then off trolling with knockdowns on Spearfish and a Blue Marlin, but they threw the hooks on us. No worries though, just hearing the line sing and watching Steve get all jacked up was worth it all! You two really know how to work that boat and you've definitely got a repeat customer when we come back and my girls will be joining me on the next trip out. I've already sent this website to other fishing buddies who visit the islands and they'd be fools not to look you up first. And thanks to the Highnoon for not being available and hooking me up with you guys. That was the best luck I've had in years! Tight Lines and Smoking Drags!!!!!!!
| Posted on: Sunday. April 13, 2008 By: Shawn Strzok and Bob Hobson Hey Wayne and Steve! Just sending you guys this message to say "Aloha"We would like to express our thanks for a great fishing trip.Even though we were a little upset about Captain Bradford screwing us over,in the end it was the best thing that could have happened. You guys were very interesting to talk with and we really enjoyed the conversation.Although we didn't hook onto any "Rock Head Tuna"the yellow fin jigging was a blast.I swear to the Lord himself that if I would have eaten any more of that fish off the grill I would have been able to swim all the way across the ocean to get home!I cant wait until our next trip, because some of our time will definately be spent aboard "Playtime".Try to keep in touch about openings for tourneys, my dad has friends that would be interested in your services. They come for them every year and I am trying to find out who they fish with.(Lucky Bastards!)Good luck fishing and tell Steve good luck with his new baby! Please e-mail pics when you get the chance...my jealousy will get me there sooner! | Posted on: Saturday. March 22, 2008 By: Roger & Traci Sharp Wow, what an amazing time we had aboard Playtime! We were scheduled to go out with another boat, but the captain had emergency surgery. He arranged for us to go out with Wayne aboard his beautiful boat, we were a little apprehensive at first not being able to do our online "homework" on this boat, but WOW were we suprised! Not only was the boat better, Captain Wayne was fabulous! He still loves fishing, unlike other activies we did in Hawaii where the operators have lost their love for their adventure. Wayne made sure we had a great time. The fishing started slow, only catching smaller fish in the first part of the day, so we started trolling back and WHAM we had four marlin on at one time. We didn't have crew with us that day so Wayne had to work like crazy to help us novice fisherman get them to the boat! There we four of us that day, we caught 2 Marlin and 1 short nose spearfish!! Wayne thank you for a grat day! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FISHING BOAT TO ANYONE!!! We will tell our friends and we will be back! |
Posted on: Friday. March 07, 2008 By: Mike Potenza and Zack Russo We fished on Wed March 5th and although he didn't catch anything, it was the best fishing trip I have ever been on.(where I didn't catch anything. ) Capt Wayne and Steve worked their tails off to try to hook up. We found a nice porpoise school and had a knock down right away. We never saw it but it appears it was a marlin. Steve started to green stick which I never saw before and how cool it was. Steve is the best mate I have ever fished with. He works the cockpit like a pro. Great job steve. These guys are the best in Hawaii. Book em now. Mahalo.
Posted on: Thursday. January 31, 2008 By: jim and carol williams The trip that we took last saturday was the best trip in Kona that we have ever had! As a former Big Island resident and charter captain, I have to say that both the boat, captain and crew are all top notch. The trip started with a spearfish for my wife only 20 minutes out. This was followed by a short corner bite with a blue marlin estimated at 500 lbs, she gave us a great aerial show and went deep, 20 minutes later she was on top again! We never really had control of this fish, she just kept heading out to sea, after some fine boat handling and a few evil moves on the fishes' part we pulled hook. By this time the tide started to slack, so at Steve's suggestion, we pulled inside to try some bottom fishing. We started in 60 fathoms fishing a jig and an opelu, first drop produced a quick bite for Carol again, after a tough fight on Steves' custom built rod we boated a 35-40 pound ulua, a first for us and a true trophy.Next drop was a 25 lb. kahala for me. Now the tide started to pick back up so out came the trolling gear and we were off to the deep again. The rest of the afternoon was busy! We jumped off a good sized striped marlin, had a couple of other snaps and encountered the biggest porpoise school we have ever seen! We pulled a 100 lb ahi out of that that ate the long corner bait. A big mahalo to Capt Wayne and Steve, can't wait until next year!
Posted on: Wednesday. January 09, 2008 By: Chris Male Happy New Year. The 2 trips we took with you last week rank up there with some of the best we have had. This was not because of the fishing success (as that was just OK) but due to what a terrific captain you are and what a quality mate Steve is. We have probably taken over 30 charters in the past 5 years but I have never experienced a fishing charter that worked so hard to put us into fish. You guys have great attitudes and a willingness to teach and tell stories which really made it special for my kids (when they were not sleeping). Steve is really special as I am sure you are aware and he is a great asset to your business. Playtime is a terrific boat, extremely comfortable and well designed. The equipment was also top of the line. Thanks again for making it such a great experience.
